BYSD is basically the place where I grew up! I started classes at the age of of 5, then began helping out with the younger classes at the age of 10, and finally worked alongside Miss Booth 3 days a week. My childhood and teenage years were spent with my BYSD family; forming close friendships and receiving the best dance education and opportunities you could ask for. Not many people can say they’ve performed in London’s West End twice and aboard two Mediterranean cruise ships? Miss Booth inspired me to continue dancing and teaching dance all the way through university and into adult life- the experience and training gained through BYSD meant that I could continue my passion for dance and use it to inspire new young people to fall in love with dance too!

My daughter spent 13 years dancing with Marie from the age of 5 until she left for university at the age of 18. BYSD gave Ainsley some incredible experiences from dancing on the stage of Her Majesty’s in London’s West End, taking countless exams in a variety of genres of dance and performing on two occasions on the wonderful MSC cruise ships. Her dance experience at BYSD cemented her love of dance and drama and resulted in her continuing to study these subjects at university. Bishop Yards School of Dance is a very special place which is run wonderfully by Miss Booth who continues to take her dance school from strength to strength.

BYSD is more than just a performing arts school, it’s become a dance family. Each and every child is celebrated in their own achievements. Dance, drama and musical theatre have done so much for our daughter’s self confidence. We have been luckily enough to enjoy 2 BYSD cruises which have created memories for a lifetime along with new dreams and ambitions for our daughter. Our 10 year old daughter Annie has danced at BYSD since she was 4 years old and at 6 she couldn’t wait to get started with drama lessons too. We cannot give enough praise to this wonderful dance school and the opportunities the children are given. Annie has taken professional dance and drama exams, competed at local music festivals, performed on stage in many wonderful productions and most recently, the cherry on the cake, was dancing on an MSC Mediterranean cruise ship for 4 nights out of a 7 night holiday – a once in a lifetime opportunity! We are testament to the fact that a once shy little girl who struggled to get on stage is now brimming with confidence and in her element to get up there and do it at every opportunity ! Our daughter Emma was desperate to learn how to ballet dance when she was 7 so we arranged classes with BYSD. When we picked her up at the end of her first lesson she was so excited to show us all the things she had learnt. Week after week Emma attended her lessons and practiced at home, weeks turned into months and months turned into years. It has been quite astonishing as a parent to see her grow in confidence and ability. Bishop Yard’s is like one big family, all the children cheering each other on willing each other to succeed in dance routines, shows, performances and exams. The quality of teaching, I have witnessed first hand and it is exceptional. Our daughter recently achieved grade 3 ballet with Distinction. She has also got distinctions in her Modern and Tap exams. When I watch her on stage it is a total joy, but not only to see how far my own child has come but to see all the others achieving great things as well, I’m just as likely to have tears in my eyes watching the other young performers. Finding BYSD and Miss Booth has been a blessing, I could not wish for a better teacher for our daughter and I would not hesitate to recommend BYSD
