Exciting Baby News!
I’d like you to all congratulate Rosie Baglee and her partner Kris on their exciting news earlier on in the year. Rosie and Kris are expecting their first baby in July!
Rosie is hoping to continue teaching at BYSD until the summer term.
Rosie has already said she can help during the summer school so I have a feeling she will be back before you know it.
Please can I also remind you that I do not take deposits when joining the school. However, I do ask for at least a half term’s notice if your child decides not to carry on with any classes – this is at least 6 weeks to let me know if your child has decided to stop. If a half term’s notice is not given then the appropriate fees are still expected to be paid in order to cover all costs incurred. I would also ask you to note the different bank account details for payment of fees and respectfully ask that all fees are paid on time in order to avoid a 10% surcharge being added. Thank you for your understanding in these matters.

December 2024
Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome to the last newsletter of 2024, what an exciting term it has been for BYSD!
The Goblin Next Door
Our performance of ‘The Goblin Next Door’ last week was an incredible show. Everyone who took part did a fantastic job, from our youngest performers (as young as 3 years old) to our seasoned professionals up to the age of 12 years. Just to see 3-year-old children on stage is wonderful never mind witnessing them sing and dance the routines they had been practicing so hard on during their regular classes. I still feel incredibly proud of them now. Hopefully everyone watching could see the importance of developing the whole performer in the forms of dance, singing and drama – even at an early age. I am pleased to say that we offer training in the triple threat skills (dance, drama and singing) at BYSD. A huge well done must go to our main character Alana Hope and to all the other members of the Goblin team who had either one or several lines to say. Some of these children really stepped out of their comfort zones to take on these parts and it was lovely to watch.
I am delighted to be able to tell you that the raffle on 14th December raised the brilliant sum of £290.00 This money will benefit all the children in BYSD. Many thanks to the following companies who donated prizes.
All Stitched Up
Mike Addison Optician Ltd
Dodd & Co
NFU
CF Photography
And of course, all the parents who kindly donated a prize.
Thanks also to Aaron and Denise Wood, Rachel Coates, Shiona Johnson, Szilvia Lancaster, for serving the refreshments and Claire Bainbridge for supplying the mulled wine. In total we raised £133.90 from the refreshments, which will go towards costumes for future big events
Thank you to Claire Bainbridge, Caroline Hope, Sarah Marchant and Mandy Howard-Carter who helped backstage chaperoning the BYSD children.
Thank you to Kym Jackson, Sarah Marchant and Claire Bainbridge who helped with the hair. We managed to raise £29.35
Also, Mandy Howard-Carter who provided the reindeer food – we raised £24.00
Thank you all for your help.
Exam Results
I am delighted to report some more fantastic exam results. Congratulations to LAMDA/drama students who gained 10 Distinctions and 4 Merits in their recent exams.
Thank you
I would like to thank Rosie, Miss Emily and Miss Kathryn for their hard work during the year so far and to Mrs O’Brien who has just recently stepped in for Miss Kathryn whilst Miss Kathryn is contracted to perform in her pantomime.

A uniform list is on the website. Please can you ensure that you purchase all uniform through BYSD to ensure that all children are in the same uniform for all classes.

Finally, some general news and information. I am delighted that we have been receiving a lot in interest in our classes and school. Please can I also remind you that I do not take deposits when joining the school. Roundthorn Hotel – Celebrating 25yrs of BYSD & Performing Arts
On the 29th June BYSD dancers and BYSD cruise team showcased 2 dances. A 10 minute Matilda medley and an 8 minute Aladdin medley. The Aladdin medley will be one of the routines the cruise team will be performing on the MSC Grandiosa next week infront of an audience of over 900 internationals.
This occasion was extra special as it marks the beginning of celebrating 25years of Bishop Yards School Of Dance. I can’t quite believe it’s 25 years ago since I started with about five 3 year olds!!!
Thank you for everyone who supported the BYSD dancers and cruise team.
I am pleased to say we raised £369.66 For cancer research and £369.66 towards future costumes.
Thank you to the business who donated raffle prizes:
Foundry 34, Askham pool, Rheged, Onyx, All stitched up, Dodd & Co and Mike Addison Optician.
Saturday dance and Monday drama and singing Summer reviews:
Thank you all for supporting these reviews. I have to say I was extremely proud of ‘class 1’ and how all my 3-5yrs performed in front of their parents and friends; you could see them enjoying every minute. Nothing phased them.
Congratulations to Mollie Wilson and Kenna Johnson who both gained the most improved dancer award.
On Monday we also had an enjoyable evening full of talented drama and singing students, congratulations everyone.
Altogether we raised £346.50 towards future costumes.
Christmas show dates:
I am slowly starting to think of working towards the Christmas show.
This is always an exciting time and gets everyone excited and ready for Father Christmas.
The groups involved will be Friday and Saturday classes.
I know a few parents have mentioned they’d like to chaperones. Please follow the link below if you’d like to be a registered chaperone.
Chaperones needed: If anyone is interested in becoming a registered chaperone, please can you let me know and follow the link below.
Thank you’s:
Thank you to Rosie, Miss Emily and Miss Kathryn for your support with BYSD. It’s lovely to have a nice supportive team.
We have exciting times ahead and can’t wait to share with you from September.
MSC Cruise rehearsals:
As I’m sure you are all aware by now, I’m taking 68 passengers on the MSC Grandiosa very soon including 18 performers from BYSD.
This is really the experience of a lifetime for any young dancer and a dream come true to many.
The hours turned into days the days turned into weeks when making up 2 dance routines, a lot of hard work but it’s finally paying off, my cruise team are looking amazing and I now watch it and think I can’t believe I’ve put the routines together. I can’t wait to see them on the ship. I am proud of everyone beyond belief and just can’t wait to see my girls performing on stage.
Please like and share and follow our BYSD FB post and instagram…….

Goodbyes:As always every year there’s always an 18 year old saying farewell, this year I can’t believe it’s my own daughter.
Grace has been my little shadow at the dance school since she started dancing from 2yrs. As many of you know Grace has no option but to muck in and has helped with classes, shows, exams, fundraisers, helping sort out costumes the list goes on.
I will obvouisly miss Grace within the school, but I’m sure she will back helping when she can. I’m very proud to say Grace received an unconditional after receiving Distinction in her Advanced 1 Ballet exam and is heading to Essex to start Performers College from September.
Good Luck Grace….
